Multigrid methods are used to solve large system of equations arising from discretization of PDEs. They are highly efficient and scalable, often used in computational science and engineering for problems such as fluid dynamics, structural analysis, and more. The key concepts for understanding multigrid methods are the operations: "restriction" and "prolongation".
